HUNTINGTON, Ind. (FDN) The Friesen Center at Huntington University is hosting a can collection event, “U Can Crush Hunger”, to benefit Love Incorporated, a local organization committed to serving the community’s needs.

The collection is taking place until November 5th. Non-perishable canned goods and monetary donations are accepted, and there are collection barrels located in the lower Dining Commons.

The annual Olympiad competition on HU’s campus features a “CanStruction” event to encourage students to donate cans and help their team earn points for Olympiad. Dr. Friesen, director of student outreach and engagement, helped create the event. “Let’s have a can construction activity in which we can use the actual cans that we collect in some kind of creative way in which they can earn points.”

Students participating in the CanStruction event use their creativity to make designs with their cans related to their team’s theme. So far, the Friesen Center has collected about 900 cans, and they’re hoping for more. Senior Shelby Price shares her excitement about the fundraising effort, “I love that our school is coming together. . .The biggest part is that it goes to a really nice organization that benefits a lot of people”.

There is still time to donate! The collection barrels are located in the lower level of the DC, and monetary donations are accepted as well until November 5th, 2019. To learn more about Love Inc., visit the website at https://loveinchuntington.org/
