HUNTINGTON, Ind. (FDN) The women’s softball team kicked off their season with a new coach.

Coach Erin Rethlake brings experience playing softball at the University of Kentucky. Also a native to Huntington, Rethlake is hoping to bring knowledge and different strategies to take the team to a new level.

At the beginning of the season, the new coach said the team was already showing many positives and exciting potential on and off the field.

Team leader Bree Hines says there’s already good chemistry between Coach Rethlake and the team.

“I think she brings a lot of the other side of the game, like, obviously she played that D1 side and she got to see the mental aspect as well as the physical. So instead of just focusing on one side of the game, we’re growing constantly in all aspects,” Hines said.

The women’s team worked hard in the off-season to prepare for the season. They currently rank sixth in Crossroads League standings with a 10-12 conference record.
