HUNTINGTON, Ind. (FDN) Huntington County ran their 6th annual Veterans Day 5K with a record-breaking turnout.
This young Veterans Day tradition is showing no signs of slowing down. This year, 150 walkers, runners, and bikers came out to show their support of the men and women who have served our country.
All proceeds go to taking care of Memorial Park, where the race takes place. This year, event organizers gave away a bike through name-drawing. The winner of the bike gave away their prize to a local veteran.
If you don’t feel up to running a 5K, there is also a 1K option.
Event organizer Christopher Shortridge emphasized the importance of having memorials.
“Veterans love to have a memorial,” he said. “It gives them a little peace.”
If you’re interested in running with the community next year, keep an eye out next veterans day.
