Food service shortages hit HU

HUNTINGTON, Ind. (FDN) The nationwide food staffing shortages have hit HU, which has forced our staff to adjust to keep food options open for students.

The food shortages our country has been facing are a result of disruptions in the global supply chain. For us, this means that food shipments haven’t been coming when they’re scheduled to. DC staff has had to stretch recourses to accommodate.

“It’s sometimes hard, our menus are built really early on,” said Stephanie Landis, a staff member at the DC. “Because of our delivery issues or our issues getting progress sometimes menus have to change.”

The DC itself has also been facing staff shortages. Workers have been facing long hours and a grueling workload trying to keep doors open for students.

When asked about what message she wishes to convey to students Stephanie said, “You, the student body, the staff, the people that come here to the dining commons are my customers, so I want to do the absolute best to keep you happy. And at any time you guys can reach out to us, to our management, and we will try to do the best that we can.”

The DC is hiring student workers and is offering bonuses to those who join the staff. If you’re interested in working, email April Slick at april.slick@sodexo.com.
