HUNTINGTON, Ind. (FDN) Being the first year that the Huntington Union Building, better known as the HUB, has closed down, current students are anxious for it’s reopening.
“Other than the answer of never, hopefully next fall,” HU sophomore Erin Quick said in reference to when she thinks the HUB will reopen.
Sophomore Augustia Dewitt was less optimistic.
“I don’t think it will,” Dewitt explained.
Russ Degitz, Chief Operations Officer at HU, reassured students that the HUB plans are moving forward. He gave a new timeline regarding when leaders think the HUB will be completed.
“Depending on how quickly we mobilize, the design collaborative team, which is our architectural firm we’ve worked with, has said [this is] ‘hopefully about a nine month project,'” Degitz said. “So we believe that we will be able to reopen the HUB for second semester or J-term of next school year.”
He informs FDN that contractors will be around and working on campus beginning in March.
